Hyundai To Recall Over 100,000 EVs
Hyundai is recalling more than 100,000 electric cars worldwide. A total of 104,011 cars built between January 2018 and July 2023 are affected, including the electric Kona.
The problem lies in the software that monitors the high-voltage battery. In some cases, the system can miss signs of thermal instability, which in the worst case can increase the risk of fire, reports Electrive. The solution to this problem is to update the software.
In the workshops, the updated version of the software will be installed on the control unit of the battery management system (BMS). This upgrade includes an improved monitoring function for earlier detection of thermal instability. As reported by the German portal kfz-betrieb, the software will be adapted to detect voltage differences between the individual cells of the high-voltage battery earlier.
The recall applies to the first-generation Kone Electric, the newest model.
