Introducing The Toyota ProAce Max Which Is A Rebadged Stellantis Van

Published

on

Last year, Toyota and Stellantis announced the expansion of their utility vehicle partnership to include a large van that Toyota did not yet have. This will be corrected shortly with the arrival in dealerships of the ProAce Max, cousin of the Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato, Citroën Jumper, and even Opel Movano. A host of models that all share the same characteristics. But Toyota is the latest entrant in the segment with its ProAce Max, which will benefit from the recent restyling of its counterparts from the Stellantis group. This will allow the Japanese giant to finally have an offer in the large vans, while competition in the diamond is active, with a Renault Master best seller in the category far ahead of its rivals.

More than 400 km of autonomy

In addition to the ProAce City and ProAce, the ProAce Max will fill the ranks of Toyota’s commercial range with three configurations on the program: 5.41 meters, 6 meters, and 6.36 meters in length, with loading volumes ranging from 10 to 17 cubic meters. Single or double cabin variants will be on the program. The payload can reach 1500 kg on the best-equipped versions.

But all these versions will share the same technical base: a single electric motor of 270 hp and 410 Nm associated with a 110 kWh battery, giving the right to 420 km of autonomy according to the WLTP cycle. Before restyling, the batteries were only 37 or 75 kWh, depending on the length. The ProAce Max will support fast charging and power up to 150 kW. Those for whom the ProAce Max would be too expensive can turn to the strong diesel variants of 120 and 180 hp with a mechanical or automatic gearbox. All that remains is to know the justice of the peace: the prices of the range, which can make all the difference beyond the proximity of a Toyota dealer for after-sales, are also very important for professionals.

Hydrogen, too?

Let’s not forget, in addition, that Stellantis plans to launch hydrogen versions of its utilities by the end of next year. It is therefore not inconceivable that Toyota, which is very committed to this energy, would also benefit from it.
