The Lagos State Government has announced the inauguration a rigorous enforcement campaign targeting articulated vehicles and heavy-duty trucks brazenly violating statutory access restrictions on the Third Mainland Bridge.





The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, announced that the enforcement operation commenced in earnest over the weekend with impoundment of over ten (10) trucks, citing public safety and infrastructural preservation.

Giwa said this intervention follows a sustained period of stakeholder engagement, public sensitization, and issuance of formal advisories reiterating the proscription of articulated vehicles above 9 tones from traversing the Third Mainland Bridge.

He issued a stern admonition to stakeholders within the logistics and freight sectors including fleet operators and articulated vehicle owners to comply unequivocally with the designated traffic matrix and legally prescribed operational corridors.

The Federal Government, through the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), has launched the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for auto gas-powered vehicles, electric vehicle (EV) maintenance, and the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Retrofitting Information Guide.

Officially unveiled on Thursday, July 24th 2025 at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, the move underscores Nigeria’s renewed commitment to clean energy, workforce development and sustainable mobility.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, emphasized that the NOS and CNG Retrofitting Guide would ensure safe, efficient, and standardized practices across Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem.





He also noted that it support the Federal Government’s Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) — which he said is a game-changing policy aimed at reducing reliance on petrol and diesel.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday launched the Produce for Lagos Programme and the ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, an initiative aimed at making Lagos and Nigeria as a whole more food secure and self-reliant.

At the event, Sanwo-Olu inaugurated 150 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered cold and dry trucks that will help to transport food from across the country to Lagos in order to reduce post-harvest losses nationwide.

Sanwo-Olu said that the fleet of 150 CNG-powered 40-foot trucks are the largest of its kind in the country, adding that can travel to all parts of the country on a full tank and return to Lagos without refuelling at any CNG filling station.

“And to back it all up, we have rolled out a fleet of 150 cold and dry trucks, the largest of its kind in the country, to make sure food gets where it needs to go, safely and efficiently,” Sanwo-Olu said

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has concluded the Design Phase of the 8-Seater Electric Campus Shuttle Bus Competition, with University of Benin (UNIBEN) emerging as the overall winner, clinching the sum of ₦5 million at an event held on July 25th 2025 at the UNILAG Design Studio, Lagos.

The design phase of the competition brought together 12 leading Nigerian universities, which saw them worked tirelessly on design blueprints, 3D models and simulations aimed at creating sustainable transportation solutions tailored for campus mobility.

Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) emerged as the first runner-up, receiving ₦4 million, University of Abuja clinched the third and got ₦3 million while teams placing 4th to 12th will each receive a ₦2 million consolation prize.

Following the conclusion of the design phase, the next stage of the competition is “prototyping and full-scale production of the electric campus shuttle buses”, which aims to utilize at least 60 per cent locally sourced materials.
