Luxury At 19,024 Feet: New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Reaches The World’s Highest Motorable Road
Luxury at 19,024 Feet: New Mercedes S-Class reaches the Umling La pass in India, the world’s highest motorable road.
India’s tour is part of the Mercedes’ epic, transcontinental journey to celebrate 140 years of innovation.
Following the world premiere of the new S-Class in January, three new models set out on a global journey across six continents.

Three latest-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans embarked on a voyage across India’s cities and iconic landscapes, the highlight being the successful crossing of the 19,024-foot (5,799-meter) Umling La pass, which is considered the highest motorable road in the world.
India’s tour is part of the Mercedes-Benz’s epic, transcontinental journey to celebrate 140 years of innovation—since Carl Benz filed the patent for the world’s first car —with customers, fans, and communities worldwide.

“At 19,024 feet (5,799 meters), the pass is considered the highest publicly accessible road pass in the world and offers one of the most spectacular driving experiences in the country. The journey also takes the S-Class to Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Leh, among other destinations,” Mercedes-Benz said in a statement.
Following the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class in January 2026, three new S-Class sedans—named Gottlieb (Daimler), Carl (Benz), and Bertha (Benz)—set out on an extraordinary global journey from Stuttgart across six continents.

During the 9 month-long journey dubbed “140 Years, 140 Places,” the new S-Class convoy will travel over 50,000 km (31,068 miles) across six continents and visit 140 selected locations that feature a global Mercedes-Benz brand presence.
The global journey—having already passed through Europe, South America, North America, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand—is expected to end in Stuttgart in October 2026, where the Mercedes-Benz story began.
