PTML Customs Generates N239B In 9 Months, Sustains 2-hour Clearance Time For Vehicles

The Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated over N239 billion as total revenue from January to September 2024, which is a recorded a 29 percent increase compared to last year.

In a statement on Monday October 21, PTML Customs Command noted that the bulk of the revenue were recorded in July 2024, during which N33 billion was collected by the Command as revenue.





Speaking further, Daniyan said the dispute resolution committee’s strategic approach in handling trade disputes has helped sustain the two-hour record-breaking clearance time for compliant Roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargoes, which includes vehicles and rolling cargo.

Value Of Used Vehicles Imported Into Nigeria Between January-June 2024 Dropped By 83%

The value of used vehicles (Tokunbo) imported into Nigeria stood at N138.62 billion in H1 2024 (January-June), which represents an 83 percent decline from the N819.15 billion in H1 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Commodity Price Indices and Terms of Trade Data.

According to NBS, no used vehicle was imported in Q1 2024, compared to N69.23 billion worth of used vehicles imported in Q1 2023, while the value of used vehicles stood at N138.62 billion in Q2 2024, which is an 81.5 percent decline from N749.92 billion in Q2 2023.

The drop in the importation of used cars into Nigeria can be attributed to the move by several licensed customs agents to import accidented (or damaged) vehicles, blaming the development on the foreign exchange crisis.

To cut government expenditure, President Bola Tinubu has restricted Ministers and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.





The cost-cutting measure was announced in a statement signed by the President. The new directive was made known in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President also ordered all Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to have at most five security personnel attached to them.

LASTMA Arrest Fake Officer Who Confessed To Making ₦15,000 To ₦25,000 Daily From Motorists

Following a sting operation by the Surveillance and Monitoring Unit of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Agency has arrested one Mr. Adewunmi Taiwo on the Oshodi Bridge who has been intimidating and extorting funds from both commercial and private motorists in the vicinity.

In a statement, LASTMA said that the suspect, who operates a white Hiace Coaster Bus with the license plate KJA 724 YJ and has been posing as one of its official, confessed to misusing the uniform to harass and extort motorists.

During interrogation, the 45 year old suspect confessed to targeting high-traffic routes along Ikorodu Road and the Oshodi to Mile 2 expressway and admitted to making ₦15,000 To ₦25,000 daily from his illegal activities.
