Back in October 2024, NRC also granted the Lagos Blue Line a three-year operational licence.

Operational license follows close to 3 years of successful assessment period of the infrastructure and operation.

Since commercial operations started on Sept 4th 2023, Blue Line has successfully transported 2.37 million passengers.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), the state-owned enterprise with exclusive rights to operate railways in Nigeria, has given a clean bill of fitness to all the train drivers on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT).

The cheering news was disclosed at the presentation of the certificate of fitness to the train drivers by the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo.

Akinajo, represented by the Director of Rail, Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, congratulated the train drivers for their role in giving the operation of the Blue Line credibility prompting huge ridership on the rail system.

Engr. Okusaga admonished them to continue to be levelheaded in the discharge of their responsibility, informing them that there are a lot of opportunities in the rail industry which they can connect.

It will be recalled that the NRC had in October 2024 granted the Blue Line a three-year operational licence, following the stellar performance of the rail line during its probational period.

Since the start of commercial operations on September 4th 2023, the electrified Lagos Blue Line, spanning 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2, has successfully transported 2.37 million passengers.
