Ogun Electric Bike Owners To Pay N2,500 To Swap Dead Batteries With Fully-charged Ones – Govt - autojosh

Ogun State Govt launches battery swap stations where commercial electric bikes riders can swap dead batteries.

The 3 battery swap stations are located in Abeokuta at MKO Abiola Stadium, Pansheke Skating Ground, and Oke Sokori.

These locations were chosen due to their reliable connection to an uninterrupted power supply via the Independent Power Plant.

Each of the three (3) Battery Swap Stations has the capacity to charge 24 batteries-packs simultaneously.

The battery swap initiative allows the commercial e-bike riders to go up to 75-80 kilometres before needing a recharge.

Earlier today, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun launched 2,000 commercial electric bikes and electric and CNG-powered tricycles (Keke) aimed at mitigating the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs.

At the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the initiative will not only support the state’s environmental goals but also provides a cost-effective and efficient transportation option for residents.

For easy recharging of the electric bikes, the Ogun State Government also launched three (3) Battery Swap Stations, where riders can swap their nearly dead battery-packs with a fully-charged one in about five minutes – allowing the e-bikes to go up to 75-80 kilometres before needing a recharge.

“This initiative marks the pilot phase of our programme, with three battery swap stations established in Abeokuta at MKO Abiola Stadium, Pansheke Skating Ground, and Oke Sokori.”

“We selected these locations due to their reliable connection to an uninterrupted power supply via the Independent Power Plant (IPP),” Governor Dapo Abiodun said in a statement.

According to the Ogun State Government, each of the three (3) Battery Swap Stations has the capacity to charge 24 batteries simultaneously – meaning 72 batteries can be charged across all three stations.

The Ogun State Government said this initiative represents the second phase of its e-mobility programme, following the introduction of CNG-powered buses last year.
