Peter Obi : As Anambra Governor, I Used Convoy Of 22 Vehicles Until I Found Out 13 Were Empty - autojosh

Peter Obi used a convoy of 22 vehicles as Governor of Anambra until he discovered 13 of them were empty.

He said it’s only in Nigeria that people move around with more that 15-car convoy, calling the act “madness”.

Over the years, the convoys of top government officials blazing their ways through the already chocked Nigerian roads have been seen by some as symbols of power and authority.

Some government officials, especially Governors, are known for moving around with their intimidating convoy consisting of more than 20 vehicles.

Reacting to what has been described as total “madness”, Peter Obi, during his lecture at the convocation of Veritas University in February, said it is “irresponsible” for public officials to move around with such amounts of vehicles.

Obi said he used to move in a convoy of 22 vehicles during his time as Governor of Anambra State until he discovered 13 of the vehicles were empty.

The two-term Governor and former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said doing this causes confusion and disturbances all over the place.

In his words :

“You see big people going round with 15 or 20 vehicles and causing confusion all over the place and disturbing public peace and everybody with his own big title.

Peter Obi used a convoy of 22 vehicles as Governor of Anambra until he discovered 13 of them were empty.

“If I was coming here with 20 policemen, to Nigerians, that shows I am ‘Your Excellency’. That is irresponsibility; it doesn’t happen anywhere in the world.

“There is no place in the world that I have seen where one man moves around with 22 vehicles. It is madness.

“I used it as a governor. You will not believe it. I used it as a governor until I asked to find out how many of the cars people were occupying, and about 13 of the cars were empty.

Peter Obi said moving around with convoy of more than 22 vehicles is “madness”

“So the cars were creating nuisance for the public and making things difficult for the travelling people; and in Nigeria that shows you are powerful, you are in power.”

The former governor explained that Nigeria needs new ways of doing things to prevent the system from collapsing.

“We have to be innovative in politics,”

Adding that :

“We have to get the right people who are prepared to save this country. We are in a bad situation.”
