Philippines Mayor escaped unhurt after attackers launched a grenade at his armored Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.

Three of the suspects were killed during a shootout with the Police and Army while the driver is still at large.

SUV likely armoured to CEN 1063 BR6 level, which can allow it to stop assault-rifle rounds, explosions from grenades.

It also rode on military-grade runflat wheels, which allowed it to keep moving even after the tyres were punctured.

Akmad Ampatuan, the mayor of a town in the Philippines, escaped unhurt on Sunday morning after the armored Toyota Land Cruiser SUV he was riding in was struck by a grenade reportedly fired from a RPG-7 (rocket-propelled grenade).

The ambush on the early hours of Sunday was caught by a CCTV. In the trending footage shared on social media by the municipal government, two attackers were seen emerging from a white minivan.

While one fired an automatic rifle, the other launched a projectile from a RPG, which struck the mayor’s armored Toyota Land Cruiser and injured two security escorts. In another footage, the SUV was briefly engulfed in smoke before driving away.

According to reports, three of the four suspects were killed during a shootout with the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army’s 90th Infantry Battalion while the driver is still at large.

Footage of the aftermath shows the impact of the projectile on the left side rear door of the armored Toyota Land Cruiser – which is likely the side one of the injured security was sitting at the time of the ambush.

This SUV is likely armoured to the CEN 1063 BR6 level, which can allow it to stop some 7.62 assault-rifle rounds and explosions from grenades – though some believed the one launched at the Mayor’s SUV was fired by a weaker RPG type.

In addition, the armored SUV likely rode on a military-grade runflat wheels, which allowed the Land Cruiser 200 Series to keep moving even after the tyres were punctured during the assassination attempt on the life of the Mayor.
