New Porsche Panamera Set To Arrive In 2028
Porsche is preparing a refresh for its large luxury sedan, just as sales results confirm that customers still want it. The refreshed Panamera has been spotted testing with new lights and advanced radar technology, while hybrid models continue to lead the range.
The current generation of the Panamera is based on the platform from 2016, while the so-called third generation presented in 2023 has largely kept the same foundations. This means that the refresh for the 2028 model year is coming according to plan, and the first camouflaged prototypes are already undergoing winter testing in Scandinavia.
Up front, Porsche has slightly redesigned the bumper, but the biggest visual change is in the headlights. The illuminated Porsche logo has been moved from the center of the Matrix LED units to their inner tip, giving the front end a sharper and more modern look. The new windshield features updated radar hardware taken directly from the electric Macan, while camouflage at the rear conceals changes to the bumper and diffuser.
It’s interesting to see how the Panamera turned the tide compared to Porsche’s electric model. While the Taycan is sleeker and faster on paper, it faces a 22 percent drop in global sales in 2025 due to waning enthusiasm for luxury electric cars. Overall, Porsche sales fell 10 percent, but demand for the Panamera fell just 6 percent. Even more important is the fact that the Panamera was sold in almost 70 percent more copies than the Taycan, and the reason is simple—customers like hybrids.
Although Porsche has not yet officially confirmed the powertrains for the refreshed model, no drastic changes are expected from the current offering. However, there is speculation about the arrival of a new sports variant inspired by the GT3 RS model.
The current engine lineup starts with a 353 hp V6 in the base model, moves up to a 500 hp V8 GTS, and relies heavily on three hybrid versions. The range of hybrids ranges from the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with 468 HP to the most powerful Turbo S E-Hybrid with 782 HP.
