Chevrolet has confirmed that the factory will be closed during the week of February 24, the last two weeks of March starting on March 17, and the week of May 19. According to a spokesperson, these shutdowns are intended for “project improvements” and “manufacturing updates.”

Automakers often temporarily pause production, particularly for specialty vehicles like the Corvette. Currently, there is some uncertainty surrounding the Corvette brand. Tadge Jeuchter, the longtime Chief Engineer for the Corvette, retired last summer. Recently, the company also parted ways with Harlan Charles, the former Corvette product manager and a Chevrolet veteran with 37 years of experience. Additionally, it appears that Kirk Bennion, the Corvette Exterior Design Manager, has also left the company, although the details of his departure remain unclear.

The production pauses also present a potentially larger question: is this a prelude to some physical changes in the Corvette? Rumors of an updated interior have persisted for years, and a post at the Mid-Engine Corvette Forum also mentions the possibility of a new Corvette Grand Sport entering the scene. When the E-Ray debuted in 2023, it was assumed that a new Grand Sport was off the table.

These pauses could be intended to manage inventory levels for Chevy’s sports car and to reorganize the workforce for improved efficiency. However, if we had to make a prediction, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a C8 Grand Sport debut sooner rather than later. If we receive any further updates from Chevrolet, we will share that information promptly.
