The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) is seeking partnership with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to enhance internet connectivity on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) train system.

On Monday April 15th, the MD of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, led the organization’s Lagos regional business office on a visit to LAMATA to explore potential partnership opportunities in the provision of in-flight services for the LRMT train system.





“(Nigcomsat) is seeking opportunity in the provision of in-flight services ranging from internet connectivity, on board e-commerce and wireless entertainment utilizing Satellite,” LAMATA said in a statement on Monday.

“The visit signifies a potential step towards utilizing satellite technology to enhance connectivity for Lagos commuters.”

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday April 16th announced the suspension of Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) of three private jet operators for conducting commercial flights.

The suspension of the three private jet operators permits was announced in a statement, signed by Acting Director General Captain Chris Najomo, posted on the NCAA’s website.

“In line with our zero tolerance for violation of regulations, the Authority has suspended the PNCF of these operators,” Chris Najomo said in a statement.

“To further sanitize the general aviation sector, I have directed that’s a re-evaluation of all holders of PNCF be carried carried out on or before the 19th of April 2024 to ascertain compliance with regulatory requirements.”

The Lagos State Government has announced that the 27 kilometres, first phase of the newly commissioned Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Redline Rail will commence a 2-months test run next week.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, various interest groups and stakeholders will be invited to take a ride on the train for a period of two months to give them a feel of the service the mode of transportation will render on the corridor.

It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu on February 29th inaugurated the first phase of the much-anticipated Red Line Rail project, which is expected to reduce travel time along the corridor to just 40 minutes.

The first phase of the Lagos Red Line trains is projected to run 37 trips and carry more than 500,000 passengers per day and more 1 million passengers per day when fully operational.

Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has endorsed locally-made vehicles following a test-drive of a made-in-nigeria Maxus pickup truck marketed in Nigeria by Mikano Motors.

Adewale made this known when Mikano Motors, led by the sales manager, Hassan Ghandour, visited Customs headquarters in Abuja on April 17th to showcase some of the companies car products.

Adeniyi said :

“This is our Nigerian products and we owe ourselves, we owe Nigerians the obligations to give them a chance. We cannot continue to only depend on things that we import, particularly automobiles”

“So this is a very good start. I’m impressed by what I’ve seen. I drove it over a distance and we negotiated good speed, good acceleration.”
