Rolls-Royce Of Its Era : This 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible Just Sold For $1.3M - autojosh

This 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible by Rollston just sold for a jaw-dropping price of $1.3 million.

At $8,500 brand new, the 1935 Duesenberg was a Rolls-Royce of its era as most new cars back then cost around $600.

An unnamed buyer just paid a jaw-dropping $1,341,000 — $1.341 million — to own this 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible Sedan by Rollston.

This price broke the auction record at Bring A Trailer, beating out the previous record of $1,234,567 that someone paid for a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing in 2019.

The 1935 Duesenberg with chassis 2593 is actually one of around 480 examples of the Model J built and one of only 10 of “JN” models that was created.

It is powered by a 265-horsepower, 420-cubic-inch Lycoming straight-eight engine, paired to a three-speed manual transmission with reverse.

Originally finished in red, the short-wheelbase iconic car is one of three to have convertible coachwork from American coachbuilder, Rollston.

When it was new, the 1935 Duesenberg sold for $8,500. For perspective, most new cars back then cost around $600, making the Model J a Rolls-Royce Phantom of its era.

According to the listing, a refurbishment was performed in the late 1990s before the car was purchased by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation in 2000.

The car has participated in several IPL 500 Festival and F1 USGP pre-race vintage car parades as well as the 2019 ACD Club Reunion car show.
