SAIC Motors’ MG Set To Build A Production Line In Mexico
SAIC Motor has big plans for MG. MGs are already rolling off the production line in its home country of China, but also in Thailand and India. Soon, MGs will also come from Europe, but that’s not all. A production facility will also be built in Mexico where MGs will be built, according to reports from Reuters.
The MG brand name has been in the hands of the Chinese SAIC Motor for years. Although SAIC Motor kept the English factory in Longbridge in use for years, no MGs have been rolling off the production line there since 2016. SAIC Motor mainly produces MGs in its home country of China, but models are also built in Thailand and India for the local market. There are plans on the table to set up a production facility in Europe as well, and it is now clear that an MG factory will also be located in Mexico.
MG does not only want to produce cars in Mexico but also wants to develop technology there. It is also setting up an R&D centre there, where it wants to develop technology focused on the local market. When the factory will be built and put into use is not yet known.
