Demand For The Xiaomi YU7 Is So Great That The Company’s Boss Advices Customers To Consider Rival Models

The new electric SUV, Xiaomi YU7, launched a few months ago, has achieved such great success that the company is struggling to keep up with demand. Waiting lists have become so long that the company’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, has started recommending that potential buyers consider competing models.
Xiaomi presented its rival to Tesla’s Model Y in June, and in the first 18 hours, they received an incredible 240,000 orders. Due to such demand, new customers have been informed that they will have to wait an average of 56 to 59 weeks for their vehicle to be delivered. Although many are willing to wait, a growing number have become impatient and publicly complain about the long delays.
Responding to a growing number of complaints on social media, Lei Jun told buyers who urgently need a car that it would be wise to consider other electric cars made in China. “If you need a car quickly, other new energy vehicles made in China are pretty good,” he wrote. Among Jun’s recommendations were the Xpeng G7, the Li Auto i8 and, somewhat surprisingly, the Tesla Model Y—the model that YU7 is directly targeting.
Yun doesn’t seem to mind at all that customers might choose a Tesla product. “The Model Y is a great car, and Tesla has also announced some promotions, so you might want to consider it,” he joked.
The huge demand for the YU7 model is quite understandable given its attractive design, rich equipment, and incredibly competitive price. Currently, Xiaomi’s electric cars are only available in China, but the company is already preparing for a global expansion.
