Sony Vision S : Electronics Giant And PS4 Maker “Sony” Unveils Its First Car


Electronics giant Sony on Tuesday shocked the motoring industry by unveiling its first car called Vision S. The prototype car, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show, is Sony’s way of showing off its wide range of tech.
The Play Station 4 maker collaborated with Bosch, Nvidia, Continental, ZF and Qualcomm to make the showcar.




Inside, Sony Vision S has 360° audio and a panoramic dashboard that stretches below the entire windshield. Rear seat passengers have their own touchscreens.
The Vision S self-driving car has 33 sensors, including the LIDARs, radars, ultrasonics and 10 Sony image sensors. The 5G-enabled car also have valet (self) parking assistance and ditched traditionally side-mirrors for the camera type, like Lexus ES.

A number of Sony’s sensors and equipment is already used on other vehicles. The CMOS sensors, used in its cameras, are currently used on cars like the Toyota Corolla and Lexus NX.
Kenichiro Yoshida, chief executive of Sony, said:
“This prototype embodies our contribution to the future of mobility.
“We believe that the evolution of mobility will also redefine cars as a new entertainment space.
“We are excited at about the road ahead.”

For the car’s platform, Sony teamed up with Austria’s Magna Steyr. Magna Steyr is a known for assembling cars, including Mercedes G-Class, Toyota Supra and BMW Z4.
Sony didn’t reveal the full specs of the car. But it said the all wheel drive one-off concept car can go from 0 to 60mph in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 149mph.
