The Ford Mustang Recorded Worse Sales In Its 60 Year History

on

Last year, the gasoline Ford Mustang recorded 44,003 sales in the US, marking a 9.5 percent decline and making 2024 the weakest year for Mustang sales in its 60-year history.

Sales dwindled to the extent that the electric Mustang Mach-E outperformed it by over 7,000 units. Except for a slight increase in 2023, gasoline Mustang sales have consistently fallen over the years. Previously, the lowest sales year was 2022, when 47,566 units were sold.

Notably, there was a sharp drop at the end of 2024, with a 43.4 percent decrease in the fourth quarter, totalling only 7,518 cars sold. Conversely, sales for the electric Mustang Mach-E soared to 51,745 units in 2024, a 26.9 percent rise, bolstered by a robust fourth quarter with 16,119 units sold, marking a 35.6 percent increase over the previous year.

It’s worth noting, though, that Ford has been aggressive with Mach-E pricing and incentives over the past 12 months to counter slowing demand for electric vehicles. In 2025, the Mustang Mach-E starts at $38,490 in the U.S. for the Select trim with rear-wheel drive. The gasoline-powered 2025 Mustang EcoBoost starts at $33,515, the same as last year. However, prices for the GT version have increased by $2,600, so the cheapest now starts at $47,055.
