The Majority Of Drivers Are Blinded By The Lights Of Other Cars, Which Is A Major Issue

A growing number of vehicles are now adorned with brilliant LED lights, casting a dazzling radiance that some drivers find excessively bright and disorienting. This intense glow can create a distracting obstacle on the road, blurring the line between illumination and glare as it competes with the natural light of the surroundings.

The winter season brings more hours of driving in night conditions, and there is also bad weather that includes rain, fog, and snow, or reduced visibility conditions.

Research conducted by the leading Swedish vehicle inspection company Bilprovningen shows that eight out of 10 drivers are blinded by the lights of oncoming vehicles.

Of the slightly more than a million passenger cars they inspected in 2022, one in four had misaligned or faulty lights.

More and more cars also have LED lights, which many people may experience as too flashy. In addition, many new car models have automatic high beams that do not dim in time.

Another reason is that many drivers have poorer night vision as they age, and seven out of 10 drivers admitted in a survey that their vision is worse when driving at night.

That’s another reason to get your vision checked, especially after age 45.
