During The First Half Of The Year, More New Cars Were Sold In The EU

Figures from ACEA show that sales in the first half of the year increased by 5.7 percent to nearly 5.9 million units compared to the same period last year. A significant rise was particularly evident in June. Over 1.1 million cars were sold that month, an increase of 13.6 percent. 

According to the trade association, hybrid vehicles were the most popular. This type of car was sold nearly 2.2 million times and had a market share of 37.3 percent. People bought 1.2 million fully electric cars. That accounted for 20.7 percent of all sales, compared to 15.6 percent last year.

The share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 29.7 percent. A year earlier, this stood at 37.8 percent. From January through June, slightly more than 1.3 million petrol cars and 439,592 diesel vehicles were sold.
