The Revived Freelander 8 In China Wants Half Of Its Sales To Come From Overseas

Chery Jaguar Land Rover aims to sell over 300,000 vehicles annually within five years, relying on the success of the new Freelander 8 and future models to capture global market share.

While many emerging Chinese automotive brands initially prioritize domestic sales, CJLR is actively pursuing an international strategy for the Freelander 8. The company aims to achieve an annual sales volume of 300,000 units, with overseas markets expected to account for half of this total.

Production of the rugged, boxy SUV commenced on July 30 at CJLR’s facility in Changshu, with an initial monthly sales target ranging between 5,000 and 8,000 units.

Global Models Are Coming

CEO Wen Fei confirmed Freelander 8 will offer various configurations, including global left-hand and right-hand drive models. He also noted that Freelander operates independently of Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, enabling faster decision-making for its international expansion.

The Freelander 8 pairs a 60.33 kWh battery with a 1.5L range-extender engine. Featuring dual-chamber air suspension and an advanced differential system, it balances off-road grit with on-road comfort. This launch initiates a five-year plan to introduce six new electric, hybrid, and range-extender models.
