Toyota Gives The GR86 A Subtle Refresh For The 2027 Model Year
These days, affordable sports cars are almost unheard of, but the Toyota GR86 will make a comeback in 2027 with some “targeted upgrades”. They pledge to improve the coupe’s performance and sportiness.
Even though the second-generation model is about to begin its fifth year of production, no facelift is anticipated. Rather, Thunder, a solid grey paint colour, is the only stylistic alteration.
Similar small interior alterations include the Premium trim’s switches, knobs, and shifter being finished in cast iron black. According to Toyota, this was done to give the cabin a “more coherent appearance”. Inside, there’s a new interior option called Cockpit Red.
It features red leather embellishments on the side bolsters and black Ultrasuede seats. Additionally, buyers will discover floor mats and matching red door decorations.
Similar small interior modifications include the Premium trim’s switches, knobs, and shifter finished in cast-iron black. Toyota claimed that this was done to give the cabin a “more coherent appearance”. Staying inside, a brand-new Cockpit Red interior option is available.
The side bolsters include red leather embellishments, while the seats are made of black Ultrasuede. Additionally, buyers will receive floor mats and red door trims that match.
To provide a “smoother, more linear response”, engineers adjusted the throttle calibration while the engine continues to run. Additionally, to provide a smoother shift experience, they “widened the chamfer of the shifter interlock between 4th and 5th gear by roughly 0.02 inches.” During “spirited driving”, this offers better downshifts.
Dealerships will receive the 2027 GR86 this summer; pricing will be revealed closer to introduction. The Yuzu Edition seems to be discontinued, but the coupe will be offered in base and premium trim levels.
