Toyota Halts RAV4 Production In Japan After Explosion At Factory
An explosion on Thursday at a factory for an auto parts supplier has disrupted the Japanese auto industry’s supply chain.
A serious accident at Chuo Spring Co. in Toyota City killed one worker and injured two others, forcing Toyota to halt production of the RAV4, the world’s best-selling Toyota.
According to a report by Automotive News, Toyota has decided to pause production at two of its factories and close three lines for the first shift until Monday, March 10, when the automaker will reassess the situation. It is unclear how long the pause could last.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In October 2023, an explosion at the same supplier led to the closure of eight factories and 13 production lines at Toyota, which lasted 10 days. A few months earlier, the automaker had to suspend operations at all 14 of its plants across Japan due to an unspecified malfunction in the company’s production system.
