What To Do If Your Car Is Overheating

Published

on

A car engine overheating can be caused by a variety of factors. The most essential thing is to discover out what’s causing it, and then you can deal with it.

You may be able to solve the problem without having to visit your mechanic in some situations.

Always have water and coolant in your car, especially if you’re going on a long trip, to avoid problems like this.

If your engine overheats, what should you do?

If your engine is getting too hot, do the following to cool it down:

1st step

If you have an air conditioner, turn it off. Running the air conditioner puts a lot of strain on the engine.

2nd Step

Place your car in park or neutral, then rev the engine. This causes the fan and water pump to spin faster, pulling more air and water through the radiator. This improved circulation aids in the cooling of the engine.

3rd step

Pull over and open the hood as soon as you detect the temperature gauge heading into “H” zone (which stands for “hot”). This allows heat to escape and air to flow through the hot engine.

Note that you must be cautious when opening the bonnet since hot steam may be released, so be cautious.

4th Step

When the engine is hot, do not open the radiator pressure cap (the cap on top of the radiator). This will almost certainly result in the emission of a high-pressure mixture of steam and radiator fluid, which can inflict severe burns.

5th step

Check the coolant reservoir tank and, if necessary, fill it. A plastic coolant reservoir is linked to the top of most modern cars’ radiators.

6th step

Inspect the cooling system for any leaks. You may have a cooling system leak if your radiator or cylinder head appears to be compromised, or if you open the coolant reservoir and the levels are topped up. If you’re familiar with vehicle, look for leaks in the radiator, the engine block’s core plugs, or the cylinder head around the head gasket.

7th Step

If you haven’t been able to solve the problem, seek the assistance of a Mechanic. The majority of radiator issues may be resolved easily.
