When Pope Francis Gave A Ride On His Popemobile To Young Ukrainian Refugees
Last year, Pope Francis gave a ride on his bomb-proof and Bulletproof Popemobile to three young Ukrainian refugees.
Pope Francis had in 2014 ditched the glass-sided G-Class-based Pope Mobile for humbler cars like the Fiat 500L.
According to reports, Pope Francis claimed that the bulletproof glass is a “sardine can” that walls him off from people.
Last year, Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State, gave a ride on his open-top Popemobile to three young Ukrainian refugees living in Rome.
Video provided by the Vatican showed thousands of people cheering as the Pope and children drove around St. Peter’s Square on June 8th 2022 .
“Sadly, at this moment Europe, and especially families in Europe, are undergoing tragic and dramatic experiences as a result of the war in Ukraine,” Pope Francis said.
“Mothers and fathers, regardless of their nationality, do not want war. The family is the school of peace.
“Indeed, families and family networks have been and continue to be at the forefront of welcoming refugees, particularly in Lithuania, Poland and Hungary.”
Amid Russian invasion, Pope Francis had expressed his desire to visit war-torn Ukraine but wants to go at “the right time.”
Mercedes-Benz G-Class-based bulletproof Pope Mobile
Pope Francis had in 2014 ditched the famous glass-sided Mercedes-Benz G-Class-based bulletproof Pope Mobile for humbler cars like the Fiat 500L for his oversea trips.
In an interview with Barcelona newspaper La Vanguardia, which was reported on in English by Vatican Radio, Pope Francis claimed that the bulletproof glass is a “sardine can” that walls him off from people.
He added that :
“It’s true that anything could happen, but let’s face it, at my age I don’t have much to lose,”
“I know that something could happen to me, but it’s in the hands of God.”
