“The Last Ride”: Pope Francis Rode In The Electric G-Class-based “Popemobile” On Easter Sunday
Pope Francis rode in the Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class-based Popemobile Mercedes-Benz on Easter Sunday.
His last ride in the new Popemobile comes 4 months after Mercedes-Benz gifted Pope Francis the first-ever electric “Popemobile”.
This made the 88 year old pontiff the first head of the Catholic Church to use an electric Mercedes when making public appearances.

Frail Pope Francis rode in the new Electric Popemobile for the very last time on Easter Sunday as the 88 year old Pontiff delighted the crowds of Catholic faithful in St. Peter’s Square with a short tour in the open-top G-Class before his passing the next day.
In photos shared, Pope Francis, seated in a raised chair in the back of the customized popemobile, was seen waving to crowds on Easter Sunday during a public appearance, which surprised many.

His last ride in the new Popemobile comes 4 months after Mercedes-Benz gifted Pope Francis the first-ever electric “Popemobile”, making the 87 year old pontiff the first head of the Catholic Church to use a fully electric Mercedes when making public appearances.

“With the new Popemobile, Pope Francis is the first pope to be travelling in a fully electric Mercedes-Benz when making public appearances,” Mercedeso CEO Ola Källenius said at the handover ceremony in the Vatican.
“This is a special honour for our company, and I would like to thank His Holiness for his trust. With this Popemobile, we are also sending out a clear call for electromobility and decarbonisation”.

Painted in classic pearl white, the new G-Class-based “Popemobile” set to be inherited by a new pope, packs several features specifically tailored to suit the pontiff’s needs during journeys at public appearances.
These includes an elevated swivelling single seat, which will make it possible for the Pope to move around flexibly to address an audience from different angles. Behind the single seat are two seats integrated on the left and right for additional passengers.
