Reasons Why US Destroys Decommissioned $1.5m Armoured “Beast” Limousine
What happens to Nigerian presidential Mercedes-Maybach sedan when it is retired or decommissioned ?
In the US, decommissioned armoured ‘Beast‘ limousine are dismantled and destroyed with bullets and explosives rounds.
Here are the reasons why US destroys its armoured “Beast” limousine worth $1.5m after it is retired from the fleet.
Designed from the ground up by the Secret Service, and built upon a GM truck chassis, Donald Trump’s $1.5 million “Cadillac One,” aka “The Beast,” is a moving fortress that is impenetrable by bullets and bombs.
And the president has 12 of these identical limousines in rotation. Two of these 18 feet long limos travel with the president Trump wherever he goes.
The Beast is always surrounded by up to 45 other armed vehicles, including an identical decoy, local police, a mobile communications center, more armed vehicles, and an ambulance.
When not in use, these General Motors-made limos are parked in the basement of the Secret Service’s headquarters and are under 24-hour surveillance.
The full capabilities as well as the technology used in building each car is (of course) a secret. The little we know is that this 20,000 pounds mobile bunker is made of steel, aluminium, titanium and ceramics — which is about six times the weight of 2014 Toyota Camry sedan.
It has a completely sealed interior to ward off a chemical attack; carries a supply of US President’s blood type in case he gets injured; and also has doors as heavy as those of a Boeing 757 aircraft.
According to reports, decommissioned limos are dismantled and destroyed with bullets and explosives rounds with the assistance of Secret Service.
One of the reasons for destroying the ‘Beasts’ is to demonstrate the automobiles effectiveness against such weaponry.
The other reason is to destroy the secrets of its manufacturers, as well as its armouring and defensive abilities.
