The reveal comes months after it was launched in other markets, including in Europe and South Korea, with the former receiving a shorter version.
The new Sportage is larger and more fuel-efficient than the outgoing model that has been in production since September 2015. Thanks to the platform it shared with the recently introduced Sorento, the Sportage has grown over seven inches longer and gained half an inch in width and height.
On the outside, the Crossover comes with several head-turning features, including a new “boomerang” daytime running lights and an angular fenders, which gives the SUV a sportier look.

Standard features on all trims includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as a new TouchPad that can change what the physical knobs control. Options includes a 360-degree surround-view monitor and a Harman Kardon premium audio system and features like wireless charging, a WiFi hotspot, and improved Kia Access App compatibility.
In addition to the usual LX, EX, SX, and X-Line trims, the buyers will also have the privilege to get a new off-road focused X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige trims. The X-Pro trims come with standard AWD and easy-cleaning synthetic leather seating.
For now, all trims comes with only engine option, which is the same 2.5-liter 187 horsepower I4 paired to an eight-speed automatic. Kia says other engines along with Hybrid and EV powertrains will be announced soon.
The new Sportage is also packed with full suite of driver assistance systems that are standard on every trim. These includes Driver Attention Warning, Lane Keep and Follow Assist, and Forward Collision Avoidance.
Optional safety systems on the new Kia Sportage include Blind-Spot View Monitor, Blind Sport Collision Avoidance-Assist, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance with Parallel Exit and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist.
There are also Forward Parking Distance Warning, Highway Driving Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve, Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance, Safe Exit Warning, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
“The Sportage is Kia’s longest running nameplate with almost 2 million vehicles sold,” said Russell Wager, VP of marketing.
“It’s helped Kia earn a world-class reputation for design and adventure-ready capabilities, and the new fifth-generation is poised to set the benchmark in the subcompact SUV segment.”
