Toyota first announced that chauffeur-driven vehicle was in the works at the reveal of the new Alphard and Vellfire back in June, sparking rumors that a Toyota Century SUV would soon join the iconic Japanese sedan.
Earlier rumor from Japanese magazines suggest that the Toyota Century SUV will be based on the new monocoque chassis on the Toyota Grand Highlander SUV to provide the needed spacious cabin.
Reports also revealed that the upcoming Century SUV will use a plug-in hybrid setup borrowed from the Lexus TX 550h+, which produces a combined output of 406 horsepower in the latter.
Unlike the Japan-only Century sedan, the first-ever Century-branded SUV will be sold in a number of international markets. When it arrives, Toyota’s “budget Rolls-Royce Cullinan” will be significantly more expensive than the Land Cruiser 300 Series, which starts at $100,000.
