7 Tips For Avoiding Trailer Accidents

Accidents involving trailers are becoming more common these days. A trailer or vehicle is involved in an accident almost every day. Unfortunately, innocent lives are lost from time to time.
The majority of these mishaps might have been avoided if the proper steps had been taken.
Here are some tips on how to avoid becoming involved in a truck or trailer collision.
Be Patient
This is something I really shouldn’t mention because if you’re impatient, you shouldn’t be driving in the first place.
Trailers and trucks are not danfos, so do not get into a road fight with them.
So, learn to exercise restraint when dealing with them.
Keep your distance!
Staying as far away as possible is the best way to be absolutely safe from any mishap with trailers.
Driving immediately behind, in front of, or beside them is not a good idea.
Also, remember to be extra cautious when overtaking.
If you must be near them at all, experts recommend staying at least 4 seconds away until you have an opportunity to securely overtake.
Be Wary Of blind spots.
Always remember that if you can’t see the driver, he can’t see you through his mirrors either.
To avoid disasters, always stay in safe areas where he can see you.
Exercise Caution When Approaching Sharp Turnings
Be wary of sharp turns. This includes roundabouts. Because trucks and trailers are longer than your automobile, they take longer to turn and will most likely take up the entire road width.
Most of the time, they have even more blind spots at this stage, so it’s safer to let them go before turning.
Take extra precautions When the Weather Is Bad
When it’s rainy or foggy (e.g., harmattan dust), drive slowly and carefully.
There could be a truck in front of you or attempting to overtake you from behind.
So be especially cautious when the weather is bad and visibility is poor.
Signal on time
Before you overtake, always notify them early and leave adequate time for them to prepare for your intended actions.
Make sure you don’t make any hasty overtakes!
Be Conscious
Never lose focus since even a split second of distraction could cost you your life. Also, always be on the lookout! Always be prepared for the unexpected.
