8 Million Commuters And Zero Incidents: Lagos Blue Line Marks 1,000 Days of Safe Operation
Lagos Blue Line has transported 8 million passengers safely since the start of commercial operations on September 4th 2023.
Managed by LAMATA, the Lagos Blue Line transported approximately 3.5 million passengers in 2025.

The First Phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line has successfully served over eight (8) million passengers since the start of commercial operations on September 4th 2023, reflecting growing public acceptance of the rail system.
John Zhao, a senior China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) official made this known via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He also revealed that the Phase II has reached a new milestone with the successful erection of its first precast T-beam.


“The Lagos Rail Mass Transit-Blue Line, built and operated by CCECC Nigeria, has safely served over 8 million passengers in more than 1,000 days of operation. Meanwhile, Phase II has reached a new milestone with the successful erection of its first precast T-beam,” Zhao’s tweet read.
Built and operated by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), the First Phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line spans 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2. Journey between 80 km/h Marina—Mile 2 electrified line lasts about 18 minutes, including 90-second stop at each station.


Since Monday June 15th 2026, the daily frequency of trips of the Lagos Blue Line between Marina and Mile 2 has increase from 90 to 94 on Mondays to Saturdays while start of weekday and Saturday services has been shifted to 6:00 AM from the previous 6:30 AM.
Managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the Blue Line transported approximately 3.5 million passengers in 2025. By September 2025—two years after the launch of commercial operations—the rail system had served over five million passengers.
