The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday crushed 482 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okadas, that were impounded at different spots across the State.
The condemnation activity, carried out at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, was witnessed by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
Speaking at the site, Odumosu disclosed that the public crushing is aimed to send strong message that the government is serious in its efforts against traffic violations.
He said that the crushing exercise had been on since the enforcement started, which he said was contrary to insinuations by some that the impounded motorbikes were being sold and recycled.
The police boss warned erring motorcycle operators plying restricted areas and those violating other traffic laws to desist from the act. He also warned those using motorcycles for criminal activities in the state.
Odumosu assured that the crushing exercise will continue to discourage people from trampling upon the law. He also reiterated determination of the Police Command to enforce the law.
