LASEMA Urges Motorists In Lagos To Respect The Sounds Of Sirens And Lights Of Emergency Vehicles

Emergency Management LASEMA urges motorists in Lagos to respect the sounds of sirens and lights of emergency vehicles.

It said moving out the way of a flashing ambulances or fire engines will allow first responders to get to emergencies quickly.

The DG/CEO of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, noted that “EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS’.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has urge motorists in Lagos to respect the sounds of sirens and lights of emergency vehicles by moving to the right as this will allow first responders to get to emergencies quickly and safely as possible.

Moving out the way of a flashing Ambulances or Fire Fighting Trucks (Engines) is one of the oldest rules in the book, but the rules seems to have been neglected by Lagos motorists, according to a statement by the Emergency Management.

While noting that “EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS’, the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said :

“City of Lagos, we remind you that if you hear sirens or see the lights of an emergency vehicle, you MUST make way. If you are unable to pull to the right safely, you must slow down to allow for safe passage.

“Recently, we’ve noticed that it takes drivers much longer to pull to the right, making it extra difficult for our responders to arrive to the scene of accident. Please turn down your music, avoid distractions, and be aware of your surroundings.

“Emergencies depend on us and our public safety partners to get there as soon and as safely as possible. Help us help you, pull to the right for sirens and lights! It’s not just the law, it’s the right thing to do,” according to the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
