Ford Introduces F-150 Rattler Trim Which Is A Basic Off-Road Truck
Ford yesterday introduced a new trim to the ever-growing F-150 lineup in the Rattler which is basically the base F-150 XL equipped with the FX4 off-road package, together with a few extras thrown in.
According to Ford, the rugged, entry-level derivative will serve “adventure-seeking customers” who require a trendy-looking truck and superb off-road ability. To that end, 18-inch aluminium wheels, a sporty dual exhaust system, and rattlesnake-inspired graphics lend the Rattler a unique look, replete with Rattler badging on the fender vents.
Specifically, the skid plates are borrowed from the FX4 package from where it has also inherited the electronic locking rear differential. To sweeten the pot, Ford throws in the hill descent control system and off-road-oriented shock absorbers to better tackle rougher roads. Compared to the F-150 XL, the Rattler comes equipped as standard with all-terrain tires to enhance its go-anywhere capabilities.
Customers can choose from an assortment of exterior colours including Avalanche, Antimatter Blue, Agate Black, Carbonized Gray, Stone Gray, Iconic Silver, Oxford White, and Rapid Red TriCoat.
The interior hasn’t been forgotten, either. Equally, as hard-wearing and rugged as the exterior, the cabin boasts Onyx seats with bronze accents and unique stitching, while the inlays appear to have a houndstooth pattern. A similarly coloured instrument panel continues the desert-inspired theme.
Ford hasn’t mentioned powertrain details but equipping the FX4 package on the F-150 XL normally requires the available 2.7-litre twin-turbocharged V-6 as a minimum. The engine is good for 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque.
