VW Starts ID. Buzz Production, Plans To Make 130,000 Units Per Year

VW starts ID. Buzz production, plans to make 130,000 units per year once production is fully ramped up.
The battery-electric passenger van joins the ID. Buzz Cargo, which was already being produced at the Hannover plant.
The Hannover Plant is the third VW site in Europe to produce ID models, after Zwickau and Emden.
The first series production Volkswagen ID. Buzz has began to roll off the assembly line at the automaker’s third electric vehicle plant in Hannover, Germany.
The retro-styled battery-electric passenger van joins the ID. Buzz Cargo, the commercial model of the EV, which was already being produced at the revamped Hannover plant.
“The start of serial production of the all-electric ID. Buzz is an important milestone in the electrification of our fleet and for the manufacturing operation at the Hannover site,” said Carsten Intra, chairman of the Brand Management Board of VWCV.
“The vehicle is a key pillar in the full utilization of our factory and is thus safeguarding the future of the site.”
The Hannover Plant is the third Volkswagen site in Europe to produce ID models, after Zwickau and Emden. It was under construction for two years to boost the production of its Electric Vehicles to meet customers demands.
“We are now manufacturing three ‘Bulli’ [Multivan] product lines with three different drive system concepts in our plant here,” said Josef Baumert, head of production and logistics at VWCV.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plans to make 15,000 ID. Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargos at the plant this year. It plans to build 130,000 units of electric vehicles per year once production is fully ramped up.
Starting at $69,084, deliveries of the ID. Buzz are expected to start in late 2023. The base model, with an 82 kWh battery-pack allows a range of 424 km (261 miles) on full charge and a charging capacity of up to 170 kW at a quick-charging station
