Mercedes-Benz Launches First Ever Plug-In-Hybrid S580e Maybach With 62 Miles Range

The Mercedes-Maybach S580e is the luxury division’s first plug-in hybrid model and offers a 62-mile range. Based on the Mercedes-Benz S580e, the Maybach is expected to push the model’s refinement to greater heights.
At the heart of the plug-in hybrid is Mercedes’ 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine. It makes 367 hp and 368 ib-ft of torque on its own. The electric motor produces 150 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque, which is available from the first engine revolution. The combined output of 503 hp and 553 lb-ft, allows a 0-62 mph acceleration in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
More importantly, the 28 kWh battery pack offers a purely electric range of up to 62 miles between charges, measured under the WLTP cycle. In EV mode, the top speed is limited to 87 mph. A full charge can be completed in as low as 30 minutes from the optionally available 60 kW DC charging, although it certainly takes longer from the standard 11 kW AC unit.
Differentiating the new Mercedes-Maybach S580 e from its non-electrified brethren is going to be tricky unless you’re very familiar with the model’s design. That’s because the German brand chose not to highlight its electrified nature too much. It only has blue-color accents in the headlights, and on the battery charging state in the instrument panel, and a charging socket concealed on the left-hand side.
Initially, it will be offered in China, one of Maybach’s strongest markets – it delivered 1100 cars per month there in 2022 – followed by Thailand, Europe, and “other markets”, according to an official statement.
