Mercedes-Benz To Replace Current G-Class SUV In 2024-autojosh

A facelifted Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV is set to arrive in the market early 2024 as a more aerodynamic model.

ICE-powered G-Class will borrow design cues from the upcoming EQG (all-electric G-Class) to reduce fuel consumption.

Last month, Mercedes announced plans to launch a smaller version of the military-grade G-Class SUV, named “little G”.

Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz is set to replace the current-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class (G-Wagon) with a facelifted and more aerodynamic model in early 2024, according to Business Insider Germany reports.

A document seen by Business Insider Germany, classified in boldface as “Strictly Confidential!” and dated September 14 states : “The production of the current G-Class will expire in Q1 2024.”

The facelifted ultra-rugged machine will reportedly borrow design cues from the upcoming all-electric EQG (electric G-Class) to reduce fuel consumption for the gasoline-powered V6 and V8 variants.

While the facelifted ICE-powered Mercedes-Benz G-Class is expected to arrive in 2024 as a 2025 model year SUV, the electric variant, the EQG, also set to debut next, is expected to steal the headlines.

“When you really go into the details of the car, we have changed things. Most customers won’t see it, even if they stand in front of the car, but the change in some cases had a really dramatic improvement to the aerodynamics,” Dr. Emerich Schiller, head of the G-Class business unit, told Autocar.

Last month, the German automaker announced plans to launch a smaller version of the military-grade G-Class SUV, named “little G”— though no definitive date was given for the launch.

“We have something in store for G fans around the world… there will be a little G, kind of the daughter or son of the big G”, CEO Ola Kallenius told CNBC following the reveal of the Concept CLA-Class at the 2023 Munich Motor Show.
