Toyota Hilux Now Has An Affordable Sister Model In The Form Of The Hilux Champ
The Toyota Hilux has a sister model: the Hilux Champ. The Toyota Hilux Champ is a relatively cheap pick-up intended for growth markets and has now been launched in Thailand. The run-up to the market introduction of the Hilux Champ has been a long one. Toyota first showed the car as an IMV 0 Concept in 2022, and in August it appeared in Indonesia as a more concrete-looking Rangga Concept. With the Hilux Champ, as the car is called in Thailand, Toyota says it wants to contribute to local economies in Asia. The workhorse is widely applicable.
The Toyota Hilux Champ will be available in two lengths in Thailand. The longest measures 5.3 meters in length, is 1.79 meters wide and 1.74 meters high and has a wheelbase of 3.09 meters. In terms of length, the longest version is hardly inferior to the Hilux. In fact, it is even longer than any Hilux variant. The loading platform of this longest version is 2.65 meters deep. The shorter Hilux Champ has 2.75 meters between the front and rear axle and a 2.31-meter-deep loading platform. There will also be so-called chassis-cab variants that are suitable for various types of bodies.
Depending on the market where it is supplied, the Hilux Champ will be available with 2.0 and 2.7-liter four-cylinder petrol engines. They are successively 139 hp and 150 hp strong. A 2.4-liter diesel engine also finds its way into the pickup. The latter seems to be reserved for the Thai market for the time being.
In Thailand, the Hilux Champ will cost at least €12,000. The new commercial vehicle will also be built locally, as Toyota Motor Thailand will build it at its Samrong factory.
