3-year Operational License : Nigerian Railway Corporation Impressed By Lagos Blue Line Infrastructures

Nigerian Railway Corporation impressed by Lagos Blue Line operations and infrastructures, including its independent power plant.

Inspection is a crucial step towards obtaining a 3-year operational license for the Blue Line being operated by LAMATA.

It had earlier received an initial safety certification from Govt. Inspector of Railways from Federal Ministry of Transport.

Lagos Blue Line commenced passenger operation on 4th Sept 2023 and has since moved two million passengers. 

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has expressed satisfaction with the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, following an extensive inspection of its operations and infrastructures, including its independent power plant.

Led by Mr. Akin Osinowo, Director of Operations at NRC, the inspection team commended the Lagos State Government for pioneering electric rail transportation in Nigeria.

The inspection is a crucial step towards obtaining a 3-year operational license for the Lagos Blue Line being operated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

The Lagos Blue Line had earlier received an initial safety certification from the Government Inspector of Railways (GIR) from the Federal Ministry of Transport before commencing passenger operations.

Earlier this week (on Monday 12th August 2024), the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority increased the number of Blue Line trips between Marina and Mile 2 from 54 to 72 per day.

In addition, Managing Director of LAMATA, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, also announced that riders can now travel in just about 18 minutes, from the previous travel time of 25 minutes.

The Lagos Blue Line commenced passenger operation on 4th September 2023 and has since moved closed to two million passengers along the 13-kilometers stretch between Marina and Mile 2.
