Governor Sanwo-Olu announces the start of preliminary works on the 71-km Green, 54-km Purple rail lines.

Green and Purple rail lines are part of the six (6) rail systems designed to ease the transportation challenges in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu said detailed plans for the two proposed rail lines would be made available as government progresses in its designs.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has announced the start of preliminary works on the proposed Green and Purple rail lines, two of the six (6) rail systems designed to ease the transportation challenges in Lagos State.

Speaking at the commissioning of the first phase of LRMT Red Line on Thursday February 29th, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the Blue and Red Lines are not the end of the story, but merely the beginning.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the LRMT plan a total of six lines, and informed that “have already started preliminary work on the next two : the Green and Purple Lines.”

According to a press release signed by Kolawole Ojelabi, Head Corporate Communication for the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Sanwo-Olu said :

“The Green line is a 71.49-kilometre route from Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, one of the fastest-growing industrial areas on the continent today, and where we will be citing the new Lagos International Airport.

“The Purple Line is a 54.35-kilometre line from the Redemption Camp to Ojo, near the Lagos State University. The final two lines will be the Orange and the Yellow Lines,” he stated.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said detailed plans for the two proposed rail lines would be made available as government progresses in its designs.

In his speech, President Tinubu admonished other state governor to emulate the Lagos example by easing transportation challenges in their states.

“I am pleased to declare to you that the momentum of greatness we kick-started a quarter of a century ago has become an unstoppable entity. It is not a crime to dream and dream big. Just stay focused and stay on course, particularly if your central focus is the people,” the President said.

The President lauded the Governor, management and staff of LAMATA for being professional and “staying focused on the ball and expressed the desire to be part of the completion of the second phases of the Blue and Red line.

The highpoint of the commissioning ceremony was the contract signing for the second phase of the Red Line by the MD of LAMATA and the MD of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Zhinchen Zhang.
