First Phase of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Transports over 250,000 passengers safely in 100 days (September ending).
The First Phase of the CCECC-built Abuja Rail Mass Transit officially began commercial operations on May 29th 2024.
It consists of 2 lines with a total length of 45 km and 12 stations, and has a maximum operating speed of 100km/h.
At the official re-launch on May 29th 2024, Tinubu said that commuters would enjoy free train rides until the end of the year.
The First Phase of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (Metro Rail), which officially began commercial operations on May 29th 2024, has transported over 250,000 passengers as of the end of September 2024.
Built by the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), the Abuja Metro Line has 12 trains, with each having the capacity to carry at least 700 passengers while making 14 trips per day.
“The Phase I of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit by #CCECC has been operating safely for over 100 days! Consisting of 2 lines with a total length of 45 km and 12 stations, the maximum operating speed of the trains can reach 100km/h,” CCECC wrote while marking its 100 days milestone.
“It connects Abuja city centre, the international airport, the rail line, and Kubwa satellite town. During its operation, over 250,000 passengers have already been served, significantly reducing traffic congestion in the capital. Take a look”, the post added.
While flagging off the official re-launch of commercial operations on the Abuja Light Rail on May 29th 2024, President Bola Tinubu said that commuters would enjoy free train rides on the Abuja Metro Line until the end of the year.
Currently, Lot 1 and 2 of the metro line runs two trips simultaneously every day, thereby having a cumulative capacity of transporting 980,000 passengers monthly in the Federal Capital Territory.
