FRSC Begins Clamp Down On Illegal Use Of Number Plates/Fake Vehicle Registration Numbers

FRSC commences nationwide clamp down on illegal use of number plates and fake vehicle registration numbers.

The Special operation which began on Monday targeted private, commercial, government and diplomatic vehicles.

FRSC said the use of illegal number plates doesn’t only pose a threat to humans and property but also to the nation’s security at large.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday February 3rd 2025 commenced a special operation to clamp down on illegal use of number plates and fake vehicle registration numbers.

The Special operation targeted vehicles with fake registration numbers and illegal use of number plates by private, commercial, government and diplomatic vehicles.

The Operation was headed by the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Operation, ACM Hyginus Omeje along with the Assistant Corps Marshal in Charge of Motor Vehicle Administration, ACM Godwin Omiko.

“The use of fake number plates has become a major security concern in the country. Some citizens have taken it upon themselves to use unauthorised number plates not recognised by law,” Hyginus Omeje said while Addressing newsmen in Abuja.

“FRSC would leave no stone unturned in tracing the source of the fake number plates and bringing those responsible to book. The exercise will continue in all major cities across the country,” he said.

Also speaking, Omiko said that the use of illegal number plates does not only pose a threat to humans and property but also to the nation’s security at large.

“Illegal number plate usage, fake diplomatic number plates, expired number plates for ex-public officials, and covering of number plates are offences under this special intervention patrol.

“We hereby warn those using these categories of number plates to remove them or face prosecution” he added.
