Toyota Has Sold More Than 30 million Electrified Vehicles
The pioneer of hybrid technology is reaping the rewards of its work over the past three decades. Few manufacturers can boast of having sold more than 30 million hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles in less than 30 years.
Toyota’s sales of electrified cars continue to grow year after year.
Since the launch of the first-generation Prius in 1997, the first mass-produced hybrid car, by the end of 2024, Toyota has managed to sell more than 30 million electrified cars worldwide.
Of these, more than six million such vehicles were sold in Europe. Between 1997 and 2024, the majority of electrified vehicles sold in the Old Continent were with standard hybrid (HEV) powertrains. To be precise, 5,884,708 of these cars have been sold so far. Next are models with PHEV assemblies, which have been sold in 165,830 units so far.
Then come pure electric cars, with 93,259 units sold so far, and then hydrogen-powered vehicles, with 3,897 units sold. Toyota has also recently started offering mild hybrid models in its range.
Last year, the Toyota Group, which includes the Lexus brand, sold 1,217,132 new cars in the European market. This sets a new sales record.
