Xpeng Surpassed The Milestone Of Producing One Million Vehicles
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has announced that it has achieved a significant milestone after the company’s millionth car rolled off the assembly line.
According to CEO He Xiaopeng, it took Xpeng 82 months to produce the first 500,000 cars; however, the journey from 500,000 to one million cars took just 14 months for the company.
A significant part of this growth is due to the success of the Xpeng Mona M03 model presented last year. The Mona M03 accounts for a fifth of the total of one million Xpeng cars sold. On November 7 this year, the company announced that shipments of the Mona M03 had reached 200,000 units, a milestone also achieved in 14 months.
Among the new electric vehicle manufacturers in China, Li Auto was the first to reach the milestone of one million cars in October last year. In September of this year, Leapmotor joined the “millionaires club” with the support of Stellantis.
Xiaomi Auto, which only started shipping last year, has yet to hit the million mark, but it took about 20 months to deliver the first 500,000 cars to customers. The company has every chance of reaching the first million faster than any other new car manufacturer.
Nio is still just under the million mark. As of October 31 of this year, Nio Group’s cumulative deliveries (including the Onvo and Firefly brands) totalled 913,182 cars. With 40,397 cars delivered in October, the company is well-positioned to join the “millionaires club” soon.
So far, Nio, Xiaomi, and Xpeng have only sold fully electric cars, making reaching the million mark a more challenging task compared to hybrid-focused competitors such as Li Auto and Leapmotor.
Xpeng has already started producing models with extended range, and Xiaomi will launch its own line of such cars next year. In this situation, Nio could soon be the only manufacturer of purely electric vehicles in China.
