BMW Ponders An Even More Powerful M2 Variant
The BMW M2 CS blends M3/M4 performance into a compact, rear-wheel-drive package. As its production cycle nears its end, BMW is rumored to be developing a final, high-performance special edition.
Reports from BimmerPost contributor Ynguldyn—a source with a proven track record regarding BMW’s product roadmap—indicate that a final special edition of the M2 is expected to launch prior to the conclusion of the current model’s production cycle. While specific details remain limited, the confirmation of a forthcoming special variant has sparked significant speculation regarding the manufacturer’s future plans.
Although it may appear that the M2 has reached its performance zenith, there remains potential for further mechanical refinement. One viable direction for BMW involves the development of an all-wheel-drive iteration of the high-performance M2 CS, mirroring the implementation of the xDrive system seen in the M3 and M4 lineups.
With the BMW M2’s xDrive system already available, BMW could pair it with the M2 CS’s 523-hp engine for significant performance gains. Alternatively, a manual “Handschalter” edition or a lightweight, high-output M2 CSL may be in development. Either way, an exciting future awaits M2 enthusiasts.
