8 Important Car Care And Safety Tips For Car Drivers In Rainy Seasons
This post talks about how to maintain and take proper care of your car.. as well as safety during the rainy seasons.
Knowledge of this does not only put your car in good condition, it also prolongs the life span of your car.
Did you know that rain and wet conditions affect vehicle parts very differently from regular (dry) conditions?
AutoJosh is much concerned about you and your vehicle and would love to arm you with useful knowledge about caring for yourself and car in the wet weather.
Motor accidents increase significantly during the rainy season, hence, much care should be put to consideration.
1. Ensure your windscreen wipers are in good condition.
Bad wipers won’t clean your windscreen during downpour and can as well damage your windscreen when it is down to the metal.
Check your wipers to make sure it can clean the windshield properly.
Bad wipers cause bad visibility which can result to an accident.
NB: jerking, squeaking and other noises indicate that the wiper blade might need replacing
2. Use good tyres.
During rainy seasons, traction is of much importance to the car and driver in order not to lose control of the vehicle.
They are meant to be in tip-top condition.
On wet surfaces, the tyres are very prone to aquaplaning (hydroplaning) due to different thread level, speed and different road surfaces.
Always check your tyres and replace if they are worn out for a safe drive. Also keep to the specified tyre pressure.
3. Ensure functional headlight and taillight.
Their importance during rainy days cannot be overemphasized.
It does not only illuminate the environment when dark and stormy, it also indicates your position clearly to other road users.
Ensure they are in perfect conditions. Use them!!!
4. Wash your car regularly if possible.
Rainwater is slightly acidic and it is not a good friend to your car paint job. This might affect the body of your car if exposed to rainwater for too long.
Waxing your car will go a long way, it does not only protect the paint, it also allows water to roll off easily.
Also remove mud from the undercarriage and wheel wells regularly to prevent rust.
5. Ensure the electrical connections in your car are good.
Avoid loose connections and ensure that connections are properly insulated where necessary.
Ensure the fuses are intact.
Bad electrical connections might affect your headlight, taillight and other important systems.
6. Drive at a cautious speed.
Over-speeding on wet roads can be very dangerous. Always drive at a speed you can easily control in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
Wet road can increase the stopping time of your car, it can cause skidding etc.
7. Check your battery.
Many battery related problems occur during rainy seasons. One major reason is the immense pressure it undergoes from the headlight, taillight, air-conditioner, wipers, radios and many other functions all working at the same time.
Have an auto electrician check this for you so you won’t get stalled under the rain.
8. Don’t always drive through pool of water.
It will be a better option to take an alternative route than to swim a pool of water with your car.
Driving through a pool of water can damage the engine parts, electronic system, interiors, transmission etc.
AutoJosh wish you safe and comfortable driving. Stay tuned for more useful tips.
