NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station in Abuja, introducing a technology-driven fuelling experience that allows motorists to buy fuel independently while accessing electric vehicle charging and other mobility services.

Located on Bill Clinton Drive, the new station operates a 24-hour self-service system. Motorists can select their preferred fuel type and exact quantity, make payment and dispense the fuel themselves without relying on a pump attendant.

The Smart Station features 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, backed by storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.

The facility also has an 86-point electric vehicle charging facility, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dispensing facility, lubricant service bay and fully automated car wash, with provision for future Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure.

The station was developed by NNPC Retail, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which provided the land for the project.

“The launch of this Smart Station reflects our commitment to innovation, convenience, operational efficiency, and most importantly, an exceptional customer experience,” NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, said at the commissioning.

At the event, NNPC Retail Managing Director, Huub Stokman, said the company plans to expand the Smart Station model across Nigeria, creating a more convenient, technology-enabled retail network centred on customers’ needs.

Powered entirely by more than 200 kilowatt-hours of installed solar capacity, the facility also includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and convenience store. The EV charging facility was deployed in partnership with Africa Motor Works.

The NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, represented by Deputy Comptroller General Saidu Bashir Daura, described the station as a model for sustainable energy investment and innovative transportation solutions.
