Antonov An-26 cargo plane crashes after takeoff from Juba Airport, South Sudan. At least 17 occupants on board have died.

The aircraft, hired by ‘UN’, was carrying motorbikes, spare parts, food items, and NGO staff salaries. 

Once the news of the crash spread, people rushed to the scene to collect the scattered money.

This crash comes just three weeks after another ‘UN’ Antonov An-72 cargo aircraft crashed on arrival in Mali.





A South West Aviation Antonov An-26 cargo plane has crashed shortly after taking off from Juba International Airport (JUB) at in South Sudan on Saturday. According to local news, some 17 people were killed while one survived.

The freighter aircraft was hired by the UN food agency. It was reportedly operating a charter service between Juba and Aweil in South Sudan.

The cargo aircraft, registered YI-AZR, was carrying motorbikes, spare parts, food items, and NGO staff salaries.

It was reported that people rushed to the scene to collect scattered money once the news of the crash spread.

Videos and photos taken from the crash site shows the fuselage of the aircraft has been destroyed due to impact and fire.





This plane crash comes just three weeks after an Antonov An-72 cargo aircraft crashed on arrival at Gao airport in Mali.

The twenty-six year old An-72, also on a United Nations “UN” mission, was seriously damaged after running past the runway after landing.
