A video of Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram terrorists has surfaced. In the video, some soldiers were seen cursing out the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

Also in the video, an MRAP was captured going up in flames. It is unclear whether it was set ablaze by insurgents or by the revolting soldiers.

MRAP or Mines Resistant Ambush Protected, are combat vehicles. They are designed specifically to withstand improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes.

Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP)

Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected started as a  military light tactical vehicles by the United States Department of Defense in 2007. It was as a response to the increased threat of IEDs during the Iraq War. It may not be sufficiently effective against Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFP), which use an explosive charge to propel a specially shaped metal plate at high velocity while simultaneously deforming it into an armour-piercing projectile.

From 2007 until 2012, the MRAP program deployed more than 12,000 vehicles in the Iraq War and War in Afghanistan. Production of the war vehicles officially ended in 2012.

In March 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the first set of locally-made MRAP.

The Nigerian Army Command Engineering Depot manufactured the vehicles. It was in partnership with Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna.

During the event, Buratai disclosed that the locally-made Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected was versatile in the counter-insurgency and other military operations in the country. He also added that they would pose a great threat to adversaries.

On November 2019, the Nigerian Army ordered for 28 Ezugwu MRAP armoured vehicles for counter-terrorism/insurgency missions.
