Autojosh, Nigeria’s authoritative car blog, and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have shared some important Road Safety Tips that will not only help save the lives of the drivers but also that of other road users.
These list of driving tips highlights some dangerous driving practices such as Tailgating, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and making calls/texting while behind the wheels, all of which endangers the lives and safety of other road users.
Below are 10 must-know safety rules for motorists while driving. Wishing all drivers a safe and responsible journey today!
1. ? Obey Traffic Signals:
Red means stop, green means go. Don’t rush! Failing to stop at red lights has resulted in accidents at traffic junctions.
2. ? No Texting & Driving:
Avoid distractions while behind the wheels. Your phone can wait. Keep your eyes on the road.
3. ⚠️ Maintain Safe Speeds:
Speed limits exist for a reason. Slow down! Never exceed the stated speed limits as this may lead to injuries or even fatalities.
4. ? Keep a Safe Following Distance:
Maintain a 3-second gap to react in time, especially when the vehicle ahead is transporting goods projecting beyond the rear.
5. ? Use Seat Belts:
Buckle up in every trip, as three-point seat belt secures both the upper and lower body during a crash.
6. ? Respect Road Signs:
They guide your way, follow them diligently. Driving against traffic (One Way) are traffic offences in all states.
7. ? Use Headlights:
Ensure visibility, even in daylight.
8. ? Don’t Drink & Drive:
Alcohol impairs judgment. Stay sober. Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is a serious crime in most countries around the world.
9. ? Be Courteous:
Show respect to fellow drivers, share the road – avoid road rage and aggressive driving behaviors.
10. ? Regular Vehicle Maintenance:
Also ensure your car brakes, tyres, and Headlights-Taillights are in top shape before embarking on a journey.
