Bugatti honours retiring ‘Director of Design’, Achim Anscheidt, who oversaw the designs of Veyron, Chiron.
Achim, who has been with Bugatti since 2004, will be replaced as Director of Design by his deputy, Frank Heyl.
The 44-year-old automotive designer remains a senior advisor to Bugatti Rimac CEO, Mate Rimac.
Bugatti has announced the retirement of design chief Achim Anscheidt after 19 years of personally overseeing the stylistic evolution of the Bugatti brand, starting with the iconic Veyron.
Achim Anscheidt, who has been with the marque from Molsheim since 2004, helped established Bugatti to what it is today with hyper sports cars whose designs are as unique as their technology.
Under Achim’s careful guidance, Bugatti models like the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse as well as modern day models like the Chiron and its variants became icons of performance.
Anscheidt’s planned to resign three years ago, but Mate Rimac encouraged the 44-year-old automotive designer to stay on to help finalize the design of the upcoming Chiron successor.

Mate Rimac, the CEO of the Bugatti Rimac partnership said:
“Since engaging in my role at Bugatti a couple of years ago, it was obvious that Achim was a crucial component in establishing the next generation of Bugatti hyper sports cars, so I sincerely encouraged him in 2021 to remain with Bugatti for a further three years before retiring.
“I always wanted to make the famous BUGATTI patrons proud – especially Ettore Bugatti and his son Jean, but also Romano Artioli and the late Ferdinand Piëch,” explains Anscheidt”, said Achim.
“Notably Jean served as a source of inspiration for me with his stylistic vision. He was such a visionary of form and style. I wanted to develop modern day BUGATTI models into crowning jewels of 21st century automotive excellence.”
Anscheidt, who remains a senior advisor to Bugatti Rimac CEO, Mate Rimac, will be replaced as Bugatti Director of Design by his long-standing deputy, Frank Heyl.
